24 Lakh Consumers Dropped From Gruha Jyothi? BJP Calls Karnataka Govt ‘Guarantee Chor’

Bengaluru: The BJP has targeted the Congress government in Karnataka over the alleged exclusion of 24 lakh eligible consumers from the Gruha Jyothi scheme following a revision, accusing the ruling party of double standards on electoral roll and welfare scheme revisions.

In a post on X, the BJP pointed out that while Congress leaders strongly oppose revisions to electoral rolls and frequently raise allegations of “vote theft”, they remain silent on what it described as irregularities in the state’s guarantee schemes.

Taking a sarcastic swipe at the Congress, the BJP said the party appeared to oppose electoral roll revisions while pursuing changes to its own guarantee schemes with equal enthusiasm. It also claimed that official documents substantiated its allegations regarding the exclusion of beneficiaries.

The BJP labelled the administration “Guarantee Chor” and questioned whether Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar would break his silence and respond to the issue.

The allegation has added to the political tussle between the BJP and the Congress over the implementation of Karnataka’s guarantee schemes. The BJP has demanded an explanation from the state government over the reported exclusion of eligible Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries.
