Over Alleged Payment to Children for Political Slogans

Bhopal: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Madhya Pradesh government over allegations that children were offered money to chant political slogans during a march led by former chief minister and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh.

Taking cognisance of a complaint filed on October 22, the Commission, led by member Priyank Kanoongo, directed the Madhya Pradesh chief secretary and director general of police to investigate the allegations.

The NHRC has sought an action-taken report (ATR) from the state authorities within two weeks, asking them to examine the claims raised in the complaint.

The Commission has also directed the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to examine allegations concerning the circulation of photographs and videos of the children on social media platforms.

The notice follows allegations that children were induced through monetary offers to participate in the march and raise political slogans. The claims are subject to investigation, and the Commission has sought reports from the concerned authorities.
