Shivakumar Appeals to Sugarcane Farmers to End Protest, Seeks Meeting with PM Modi

Mysuru: Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday appealed to protesting sugarcane farmers to withdraw their agitation, assuring them that he was committed to addressing their concerns.

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar said he had sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss sugarcane pricing, drought relief and other issues concerning the state.

He said he did not want to politicise the farmers’ demands and maintained that he sincerely supported their cause.

Shivakumar also said he was willing to take representatives of other political parties along to meet the Prime Minister if they agreed to join him.

The appeal comes amid protests by sugarcane farmers demanding action on their grievances, including better prices for their produce. The Chief Minister urged the farmers to reconsider their agitation, reiterating his commitment to taking up their concerns with the Centre.
